A Little Background Before Hand:
So in case you didn't know, The flim "Planet Terror" is originally part of a double feature epic called; GRINDHOUSE: Double Feature. When put into theatres this film was played with another film called "Death Proof", and then ficitional previews, and old school movie notices were placed inbetween the two films as well, creating the feel of the traditional Double Feature.
The sad part is that current society didn't seem to understand, or enjoy the point of reliving an older style "double feature". Thus causing the movies to bomb at the box office, even though they shouldn't have, thus causing the two films to be released on DVD separately where their popularity soared!
But anyways back to the movie...
Planet Terror has tales about multiple people in a small town, and then they end up tied together about half way through the film. The easiest way to explain this film is to go through the different tales, and then talk about how they all get tied together.
The first tale about a experimental bio-chemical weapon which turns humans into zombies, that is released at a military base by accident, which is near a small town in Texas.
The second tale is about Cherry (Rose McGowan) who's a "go go" dancer in this town and, is sick and tired of her life. She finally quits her job on this faithful night, and starts hitchhiking to find something new in her life. She ends up at JT's Barbeque, where she ends up seeing her ex-boyfriend El Wray (Freddy Rodriguez).
The third tale is about Dr. William Block (Josh Brolin) and Dr.Dakota Block (Marley Shelton) who obviously are husband and wife. Anyways they are working the night shift, when a middle aged man comes in and says that he recieved a bit about a half hour before, but the spread and gangrene of the man's bite is at a far more advanced stage then what it should be. More and more people start coming into the hospital "infected", and dead with thier bodies chewed apart, and the two start to wonder what's going on.
Back at JT's El Wray offers to drive Cherry home, and then on the way Cherry get's pulled out of the truck by zombies, until Wray chases after to shoot the zombies and save Cherry. In the process though Cherry still gets her leg chewed off by zombies. Cherry gets taken to the hospital by Wray where the sheriff of the town takes Wray into custody for using a gun, without a gun license.
From this point on it becomes very apparent that something is wrong with the town, and the misfit team of people left who aren't infected band together to stop the infection, and what's going on at the military base causing it!
That's all i'm going to tell you about plot, because anything more would ruin the rest of the film. I greatly enjoyed this film, because even though it's a classic horror zombie flick, although it's not really a horror movie, it's simply entertaining. it's so constant and ridiculous that it keeps you going from beginning to end. And although the movie does have a rather "cheesey" tone to it, that is what makes the movie so ridiculous... which makes it incredible!!!!!
Robert Rodriguez always has quite the mind for gore, and if you enjoy gore... PLEASE WATCH THIS!!!
